So, I’m sort of settling into a routine now. I’m not as hungry as I used to be. I hope that means the stomach is shrinking along with my appetite. I’m still a little scattered though. Thought I was so organized yesterday. I packed my bag with everything I needed so I could go straight to the gym from the office and do the elliptical for 30 minutes. But then I realized I forgot one very important thing…my sneakers! I went home instead and walked on the treadmill for a half-hour.
One of my big motivators in sticking to this new, healthier diet, is GERD, (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). Symptoms for this are heartburn, excessive gas, and waking up with a sore throat. When my doctor first gave me a list of foods to avoid, I laughed. It was pretty much a list of all my favorite things.
- Fatty foods.
- Wine, or any alcohol
- Dairy
- Spicy foods.
- Acidic foods, like tomatoes and citrus.
- Mint.
- Chocolate.
- Onions.
- Coffee or any caffeinated beverage.
- Carbonated beverages.
He also said that losing weight might help, and a friend said that her GERD went away completely when she dropped 25 pounds. So, I’m hoping for similar results in that regard. I haven’t completely omitted everything on that list, but I have cut way back, especially on the wine. I can’t give up my coffee though. GERD can be managed if you avoid these foods, and different medications can help as well. I hate taking anything though, and am hoping that it won’t be necessary in a few months.
Yesterday’s meals were oatmeal and one egg, scrambled, leftover pasta with veggies and a garden salad, and for dinner, baked chicken with Dijon mustard and brown rice.
29 squats! Lots of water. Will post the recipe tomorrow for the mustard chicken, it’s super easy, and very good. 🙂
