You can still lose weight eating ‘bad’ things and misbehaving every now and then. I believe this. It’s all relative though. You can lose weight eating anything as long as you don’t eat too much. It also helps if you plan ahead if you know you might be tempted. I did this yesterday. I knew I was going out last night with friends and would likely have some wine, so I ate lightly for breakfast and lunch. Melon for breakfast, and for lunch, a simple salad with chicken, a small amount of balsamic vinegar and oil dressing, and a quarter of an avocado (instead of the half I had today).
That allowed me to indulge a bit at dinner. I had a caesar salad with grilled shrimp, two glasses of chardonnay and a baked potato with butter. We’ll find out for sure, if this strategy worked when I weigh in tomorrow. I feel like I’m down a few pounds though and my clothes feel looser, so that’s encouraging.
Over the past year, one thing I have done is to eliminate all fake sugar, and any food made with fake sugar and I have read repeatedl that strictly low-fat isn’t necessarily an ideal way to diet. Our bodies need some fat, and it allows us to be satisfied and full more easily with less overall food. Some fats are better than others. I love avocados and have started to eat more of them. Today’s salad had half of a small avocado added to it, and three hours after lunch, I’m still full. Without that avocado, I would be looking around for something to snack on.
I’ve been using the MyFitnessPal app to track what I eat and one of my favorite features is the nutrition data. I often cross reference it with google for accuracy and a recent search made me want to eat avocados even more! Here are some of the benefits:
- Avocados are delicious! You can add to salads, or slip into a smoothie for added creaminess.
- They are high in Potassium, something most people don’t get enough of and also beneficial to the heart
- Avocado has heart healthy fat, mostly monounsaturated.
- They are high fiber, an average Hass avocado has 10 grams of Fiber
- Avocados can lower cholesterol and triglyceride Levels
I’ve been good today, cantaloupe for breakfast, salad with chicken and avocado for lunch, haven’t decided yet on dinner. Went to the gym earlier today and did 15 minutes on the elliptical and 15 minutes on treadmill. 27 squats. Second weigh-in tomorrow morning!
